TODAY the CQUniversity Cairns Taipans revealed their new playing uniforms for the 2016/17 NBL season, featuring a brighter orange for the home jerseys, while on the road the kit reflects the team’s new “All For Cairns” mission.
Manufactured by Mitchell & Ness International, this year’s NBL range of playing uniforms – including the Taipans’ – mark’s the company’s first whole League licence for on-court playing products.
Mitchell & Ness were responsible for producing the NBL’s headwear last year, and are upgrading the partnership this season, as the League’s official on-court and off-court apparel supplier.
For the debut of the new range, the Taipans opted for a variation on the popular playing jersey from last season, which completely sold out.
The fresh update features a richer, more sunburnt orange to emphasise the Taipan’s iconic hue, and introduces the snake’s head with a trimmed back version of the logo.
Unlike other NBL club uniforms, which include watermarks and additional elements, the Taipans aimed for a more pared back and striking design – inspired by the simplicity of Oklahoma City Thunder’s away jersey.
Like the previous two seasons, the Taipans will be keeping the dark navy theme on the road.
The away jersey also features the Taipans’ head, but instead will be emblazed with the CNS word art, which is in line with the “All For Cairns” branding.
Launched last week, “All For Cairns” is the Taipans’ latest charge and new brand identity, and reflects the club’s dedication to the community that supports them.
“We couldn’t wait to get our uniforms this season, and we’re happy they’re finally here. The jerseys look really professional and clean, and are inline with some really popular NBA designs,” said Cairns Taipans captain Cam Gliddon.
“The away jersey was particularly important to us as a playing group, because we know it’s a privilege to represent our community on the national sporting stage.
“These are colours that we wear with pride, so we need the supporters to be able to identify the kits when we aren’t at home. This way we can be ‘All For Cairns’ where ever we go.”
The Cairns Taipans will be retailing both the home and away jersey, available to purchase from the first home game at Cairns Convention Centre on Thursday 27 October.
